Fwago ("we", "us", "our") is a lease transfer platform operating in Nigeria. We facilitate the verified transfer of residential tenancies between outgoing tenants, incoming tenants, and property owners. Our platform is accessible at fwago.com.

2.1 Information you provide directly

Full name, phone number, WhatsApp number, and email address
National Identification Number (NIN)
Property address, area, and state
Annual rent amount and lease duration details
Employer name and income information
Bank Verification Number (BVN) where applicable
Tenancy agreement documents, utility bills, and rent payment receipts
Selfie photographs submitted for identity verification
Occupancy evidence including video walkthroughs

IP address and approximate geolocation
Browser type and device information
Pages visited and time spent on the platform
Location data captured during estimate searches (area or street entered)

2.3 Information from third parties

Identity verification data from NIMC (National Identity Management Commission)
Address validation from Google Maps APIs
Payment processing data from licensed payment service providers

3. Why We Collect Your Information

We collect and use your personal data for the following purposes:

Identity verification: To confirm you are who you say you are and match your identity against lease records
Lease verification: To validate that the person listing a lease is its rightful holder
Matching: To connect outgoing tenants with suitable incoming renters based on area, budget, and property type
Communication: To send WhatsApp alerts, email notifications, and transaction updates
Landlord coordination: To facilitate landlord approval and consent for each transfer
Payment coordination: To manage escrow arrangements and transfer of funds via licensed payment service providers
Legal compliance: To meet obligations under Nigerian law including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023
Platform improvement: To understand how users interact with Fwago and improve our services

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023:

Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the lease transfer service you have requested
Legitimate interests: Fraud prevention, platform security, and demand matching
Consent: Where you have explicitly agreed, including for WhatsApp marketing communications
Legal obligation: Where required by Nigerian law or regulatory authority

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:

Landlords and property owners: Verified tenant profiles are shared with the relevant landlord as part of the transfer approval process
Incoming tenants: Property details are shared with matched incoming renters with appropriate consent
Service providers: Third-party processors including licensed payment service providers, Google (mapping), and communication providers, all bound by data processing agreements
Regulatory authorities: Where required by law, court order, or government request
Fraud prevention: Where we reasonably believe sharing information will prevent harm or illegal activity

We never share your NIN, BVN, or financial documents with other users beyond what is strictly necessary for a specific transfer you have initiated.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and access controls. Documents and sensitive files are stored in protected cloud storage with restricted internal access. We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law.

Specifically:

Active user account data: retained for the duration of your relationship with Fwago
Transaction records: retained for 7 years for legal and audit purposes
Identity verification documents: retained for 3 years after a completed transfer
Unsuccessful submissions: deleted after 12 months of inactivity

7. WhatsApp Communications

By providing your WhatsApp number and starting a Rent Watch, you consent to receive automated and manual WhatsApp messages from Fwago regarding matching homes, platform updates, and service-related communications. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any Fwago WhatsApp message or by contacting hello@fwago.com.

8. Your Rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to:

Request access to the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
Request deletion of your data where it is no longer necessary
Object to or restrict certain types of processing
Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC)

9. Cookies and Tracking

Fwago uses minimal cookies necessary for the platform to function correctly. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Analytics data is collected in aggregate form to understand platform usage. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect certain platform features.

10. Children's Privacy

Fwago is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has submitted data through our platform, please contact us immediately at privacy@fwago.com.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users via email or WhatsApp. Continued use of Fwago after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
